The Sexiest Job of the 21st Century
Over a decade ago, Hal Varian, the former chief economist at Google, had stated in an interview: “I keep saying the sexiest job in the next ten years will be statisticians. People think I’m joking, but who would’ve guessed that computer engineers would’ve been the sexiest job of the 1990s?”.
At that time, the term “data scientist” was not used, but he really emphasized the importance of the nowadays data scientists’ work: “The ability to take data—to be able to understand it, to process it, to extract value from it, to visualize it, to communicate it—that’s going to be a hugely important skill in the next decades.”

As for the data, it is known as the “raw” information that we have to collect, examine and utilize it to help make decisions for our business. Often, we see data as a number or fact that is stored by a computer. Nowadays, with the rise of the Internet of Things and Big Data, many corporations and businesses are seeking for someone who will have a professional approach to this advanced data, making it more useful and working more effectively. Therefore, data scientists are playing a vital role not only in a business but also in the development of many industries, along with the beginning of the new era: Industry 4.0.
Data Scientists: What Do They Do?
